Jimmy Thang: The Reality of Being a Musician Today

Jimmy Thang: The Reality of Being a Musician Today
The Talktopia Sessions

In this episode of TalkTopia Sessions, the hosts welcome Jimmy, a longtime Delhi-based musician originally from Manipur, introduced as a singer, band founder, music teacher, academy owner, and sound rental entrepreneur. Jimmy shares how his father and church choir culture shaped his early love for music, the influence of MTV shows like Headbanger’s Ball, and the culture shock of moving to Delhi in 2000 where metal dominated the scene. He recalls college life at Venky, joining the Western Music Society, discovering structured training through institutions like Parikrama School and Artists Unlimited, and forming the band Traffic Jam. Jimmy discusses the need to diversify to survive in music—performing hotel contracts, teaching in schools, building his Cornerstone academy, and starting Next Gen Sounds and Ventures.
